Die Straße zwischen Rathaus und Johannistor mit der anschließenden Sösebrücke, über die man an der Burg vorbei in den Harz gelangen konnte, war so bedeutend, dass seit dem Mittelalter Bebauung vermutet werden kann. Die ersten Hausbesitzer werden im 16. Jh. genannt.
Jedoch ist das Haus 1925 dermaßen umgebaut worden, dass es nach entsprechenden Unterlagen als „neu erbaut“ gelten kann.
