Kornmagazin – Eisensteinstra\u00dfe 1 Dies ist ein wahrhaft \u201ek\u00f6nigliches Haus\u201c, denn der Bauherr ist Kurf\u00fcrst Georg I. von Hannover, gleichzeitig K\u00f6nig von England. Grund: Zur Erbauungszeit ab 1719 besteht bereits die sog. <\/span>Personalunion<\/span>, aufgrund derer die Welfen und die \u201eRoyals\u201c noch heute verwandt sind. Hintergrund zum Bau ist der, dass u. a. das Klima im Oberharz seinerzeit einen hinreichenden Getreideanbau verhindert. Daher entsteht durch die Bergbauverwaltung vor Osterode ein m\u00e4chtiger Getreidespeicher von ca. <\/span>70 m L\u00e4nge<\/span> mit einem Fassungsverm\u00f6gen von etwa\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><\/span>2 Mio. kg Getreide<\/span>. Dieser auffallende Bau \u2013 der einzige in Osterode nicht<\/i> aus Fachwerk \u2013, ist ein Massivbau aus Gipsvorkommen in der N\u00e4he Osterodes, die gewaltigen Balken f\u00fcr den Innenausbau stammen aus der Umgebung, und f\u00fcr den Dachschiefer legt man einen Steinbruch an bei Elbingerode. Als Feuchtigkeitsschutz wird zun\u00e4chst eine Art <\/span>Drainage<\/span> gelegt. Auch neu sind die ersten \u201eGastarbeiter\u201c in Osterode: die Leitung des Baus besitzt der hann. Hofmaurermeister Sebastian Crotogino aus Italien, samt drei italienischen Facharbeitern. Dennoch stammt die eigentliche Facharbeit zumeist von Osteroder Fachhandwerkern. Die Mauerst\u00e4rke verj\u00fcngt sich je Stock von 1,75 m im EG bis zu 0,75 m im obersten Vollgeschoss. Es gibt 5 B\u00f6den sowie 164 Fenster. Das Geb\u00e4ude war das <\/span>gr\u00f6\u00dfte Kornmagazin des Harzes<\/span> und ist heute das einzig erhaltene. Das Getreide, zu g\u00fcnstigen Preisen eingekauft, wird seinerzeit mit riesigen \u201eFruchtkarren\u201c durch Fuhrleute hierhergebracht und per Lastenaufz\u00fcgen auf den B\u00f6den verteilt. Beim Preisanstieg kommen <\/span>Eselkarawanen<\/span> zum Einsatz, welche das Korn in die Bergst\u00e4dte tragen, wo es zu niedrigen Festpreisen verteilt wird. Die Eisengitter vor den Fenstern sollen einst \u00fcbrigens nicht vor Ausbrechern sch\u00fctzen, sondern vor Einbrechern, denn auch f\u00fcr hungernde Osteroder ist das Getreide tabu. Etwa 1910 stellt man den Betrieb ein; es gibt div. Einzelbetriebe wie Kartoffellager oder \u201eSupermarkt\u201c. 1989 Umbau zum Rathaus. \u00a0 <\/span>– \u00a0 <\/span>Vorderfront<\/b> mit<\/b> Wappen<\/b>: Die Hauptinschrift \u201eUtilitati Hercyniae\u201c beschreibt die Aufgabe: \u201eZum Nutzen des Harzes\u201c \u2013 nicht der Osteroder!\u00a0 <\/span>Das Sandstein-Wappen selber zeigt das damalige englisch-hann. Wappen mit vier Wappenfeldern. Interessant sind die <\/span>frz. Lilien<\/span> als Anspielung des englischen K\u00f6nigshauses auf Gebietsanspr\u00fcche in Frankreich. Angeblich wird es daher in der Napoleon-Zeit hinter Brettern versteckt.
