Die Straße Am Schilde war im Mittelalter eine der Hauptstraßen Osterodes, welche direkt auf das Rathaus zulief. Sie war wohl schon immer breiter als andere Straßen, was die Bedeutung unterstreicht.
Auf dem besagten Grundstück ist seit dem 16. Jh. ein Hausbesitzer erwähnt, und im 18. Jh. waren zwei Mitglieder der bekannten Osteroder Familie Schachtrupp Besitzer. Nach einem Großfeuer 1826 wiederaufgebaut, lebte hier 1836 Tierarzt Wiese erneut nach 1824, gefolgt von Seilermeister, Sattlermeister sowie im 20. Jh. Installateur bzw. Schneidermeister.
Interessanterweise wurde dieses Haus nach dem Brand 1826 etwa 2 m nach hinten verschoben, so dass heute die Straßenfluchtlinie ab hier nach hinten verspringt. Dadurch entstand der windfangartige Eingang beim Nachbarhaus Nr. 17 aus dem 16. Jh.
Das Haus Nr. 15 ist teilunterkellert.
